Packaging Net Task
For this exercise we were told to create 3 net designs; one to fit a cuboid, one a cylindrical object, and finally one a wrap for a punnet. Before anything else i needed to decide what the subject of each net would be. In the end i decided that my cuboid design will be made to hold a perfume bottle, my cylindrical design to wrap around a coffee product, and my wrap around to be made for a fruit salad.

Coffee
can
For my cylindrical design I decided that the subject of my design
would be coffee, in particular coffee beans. I decided to have my net so it
would wrap around a can, which is a very simple and easy net design. On the
front of the net design I have my products logo placed clearly at the top with
the name of the product in this case with coffee beans underneath. For the
title I used a bold font and placed it right in the center so that it is clear
and stands out. Another thing that I
added to the front was the weight of the product so that it can be found
easily. I added a final touch of the fair-trade logo, as this is a recognisable
logo and is a good selling point to customers.
And for the back of the net I have the nutrition value which takes
up most of the room so that it can be easily read, and underneath would be the
full list of ingredients and potential allergies. I also added the barcode and
the estimated symbol to show the products weight.
In conclusion I would say that this design is simplistic and I have
added all of the necessary information, using the space well to display
them.
Fruit
salad
Next is the wrap around design, which I decided that the product
would be based on fruit salad. Like the coffee net this has a very simple
net layout. On the front of the design (3rd down from the top) I have the
product title, which is fruit salad, and next to that sits next to an image of
the fruit, which should catch customer’s eyes. In the top right hand corner you
can see my logo, and just from the left of that three circles that contains
some information about the product such as it has 0% fat, which can attract
many customers interests. The last things that I added to the front of the net
were the logos for one suitable for vegetarians so that it is clear and easy to
see. The second is for sugar free, again to attract the customers.
For the top of the net (second down from the top) you can see that I
had added the same features as the front of the net except from the image
making sure I don't overcrowd the design.
On the back of my net design I have a nutrition table that takes up
most of the room so it can be clearly seen. Underneath is the ingredients
list and next to it I have the barcode.
Finally the bottom of the net I have a few legal requirements such
as the CE mark and the estimated weight.
In conclusion I think that I have added most of the legal
requirements, and have spread out the information evenly. Also thinking about
what would make people interested into buying the product.
Perfume
My final net was for a cuboid design, which I decide to create a box
for a perfume bottle. Out of the three designs this had the most complex net
design that I took from a net that I found when we were looking at existing
brands packaging, as it is stable and has quite a simple net layout. For the
front of the design in the center you would see the logo with the name
underneath, this would be the main focal point in the design. Just below the
title I placed the size/volume of the product so that customers can easily find
this information. Finishing off with a small slogan at the bottom.
On the back of the net I have the ingredients list clearly placed
near the center of the design and in a bright colour, so that it is eligible
and cannot be missed. And at the bottom you will see the estimated weight and
barcode.
In conclusion I would say that everything is layer out clearly with
nothing too overcrowded, and that the design meets most of the legal
requirements.
